BRIDGEND COLLEGE – FASHION TEXTILES: Bridgend College offer various Fashion & Textiles courses which aim to give you a comprehensive introduction to the skills needed to embark on a career within fashion and textiles. It will allow you to develop creative and practical techniques in studios and specialist workshops. The courses also have sustainability issues central to its theme with many students creating sustainable fashion collections as their final major projects. Students have also volunteered and modelled at previous SustFashWales shows. The programme aims to develop students’ abilities and confidence in designing and constructing garments through practice-led experience and processes that foster the development of individual design identity. Class sizes are small and tutor contact is second to none. Eco-Schools is one of a kind – it’s student led which means young people drive the programme (with a little help from their Eco-Coordinator, of course!) It’s designed to empower and inspire young people to make positive environmental changes to their school and wider community, while building on their key skills, including numeracy and literacy, and encompassing Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship. These are delivered one step at a time, and are accessible on mobile, tablet and desktop, so you can fit learning around your life. They believe learning should be an enjoyable, social experience, so our courses offer the opportunity to discuss what you’re learning with others as you go, helping you make fresh discoveries and form new ideas. They have worked in collaboration with Fashion Revolution and Centre for Sustainable Fashion to create excellent courses on Sustainable Fashion and other fashion related courses. http://www.futurelearn.com @FutureLearnGOWER COLLEGE SWANSEA FASHION: GCS are soon to be running a “Sustainable Fashion – Upcycling Fashion and Textiles Workshop” part-time. This course will encourage you to explore and experiment with a range of sustainable textiles materials and techniques that can be used to upcycle unwanted garments or interiors. You will have access to our state-of-the-art fashion and textiles studios and equipment which includes a laser cutter, digital textiles printer and textiles design software. Pupils have created #Haulternative designs including a stunning corseted ballgown from hundreds of denim scraps for Fashion Revolution Week 2017 and 2018 and featured at Cardiff Fashion Week 2017 and local exhibitions! This fashion design course offers experience of the fashion industry beyond the university environment and sets a culture, skillset and attributes for life after graduation. You’ll engage in design thinking and a process-driven approach to solve complex issues of design, sustainability and commercial success, and develop a strong creative vision.
