Welcome to the CREATE category of our database.

create-header

This area is quite diverse as it covers anyone who supplies sustainable materials or those who run workshops and practical skills based sessions based on creating something from textiles. Even if the fabrics used are not classed as sustainable themselves these guys teach basic skills in making, repairing and reinventing etc. This one one of the key recommendations for #FixingFashion however some also do up cycling or use eco fabrics so that’s even better!

If you can’t get to a club or workshops and want to try making creations at home then we are creating some videos to help you, such as this one all about how to use a sewing machine! So dust off that old machine from the attic and get creating!

ORGANICTEXTILES-DATABASE
ORGANIC TEXTILES COMPANY: We began Organic Textile Company around 2005 though we have been selling fabric for over thirty years. We are a family run business based in Machyllaeth, Wales. We sell a wide range of organic and fairtrade fabrics and nearly all of them are made directly for us and to our specification. We use GOTS certified mills in India and Turkey. Our bamboo (closed loop) comes from China. Our main partner is Genesh in Kerala. Organic means that the cotton is grown without the use of harmful pesticides, using pheromone traps, crop rotation, hand picking of bugs and natural repellents. This allows farmers to grow food and keep animals instead of being reliant on costly chemicals and fertilizers. They receive more for their crop and the input costs are lower and the fabrics will be pesticide free. http://www.organiccotton.biz @organic_textile_company

SEW SWANSEA: I’m a little bit different to most studios and ‘sewing schools’. My workshops are very much an adult space to create badass stitchers, not what you’d usually envisage from sewing perhaps – there will be swearing and inappropriate talk but there will be lots of laughter and support and friendship. The main aim of my sessions, aside from the obvious cracking new skills you’ll learn, is to fill you with sewing confidence, give you a chance to relax, and do something for you. Sewing, and all the textile crafts I offer here, are all about: Self Care; Confidence & Relaxation! http://www.sewswansea.co.uk @SewSwansea
